SIMIAN MOBILE DISCOTemporary Pleasure (Wichita/Shock)There is music just for the dancefloor and then there is dance music that can be enjoyed outside the clubs. While hundreds of DJ-come-producers have put their thumping bass lines and screaming melodies onto 12-inch singles, very few have made the crossover to the type of pop music the likes of Daft Punk and Basement Jaxx have done so well.In recent years, LCD Sound System have added themselves to this very short list, their mix of indie rock and electronic noodling a hit with both the club and the hipster kids. Simian Mobile Disco have followed their lead. Their mix of interesting electro rhythms and clever guest vocalists puts their second full-length album into contention for dance crossover success.Cream Dream, with Gruff Rhys adding 1980s-styled vocals to the sparkling beats, is a perfect melding of dance and accessible pop. Then there's the pure tribal beats of Synthesise with classic uplifting female vocals, a must-have for any DJ playing the club scene this summer.
